ZJUI Held the First Undergraduate Workshop

On Thursday, September 6, 2018, the ZJUI Institute held the First Undergraduate Workshop for one day at the Multi-function Hall of No. 1 Residential College at International Campus.

The workshop began at nine in the morning. Dean Li Erping first gave a welcome speech and introduced the recent situation of the Institute. He emphasized that at different times, the students should be prepared to face different things. The Executive Dean, Prof. Philip Krein raised some expectations for students in the new semester. Later, Dr. Qiang Lu and Tutor Hang Wu introduced the details of the curriculum and academic calendar to the students.

The second part program is mainly composed of introductions from ZJUI faculty on studying overseas, Prof. Philip Krein gave students a detailed introduction to the life of American students and gave guidance to students applying for graduate program. Prof. Yan Xiao shared his experiences of studying in Japan and the United States and reminded the students that the challenges they may encounter. Prof. Butala acknowledge students the difference between American high school and college life with his own experience.

Then, seven students from different majors shared their colorful experiences in the summer project, and all the attended students also joined the heated discussion.

The workshop ended after Prof. Krein’s brief summary. All the participators went to dinner in the cafeteria and continued to exchange experiences. Through this workshop, the students have gained valuable experience from teachers and each other, and have a more precise positioning of their future study and life, which can be said to benefit a lot.
