We have just brought down the curtain on the inauguration ceremony.  On the morning of September 17th, a delegation from respective departments of engineering college of UIUC, arrived at the multi-function hall of the residential college and participated in the Faculty-student communication activity with the freshmen and teachers. This event was conducted by Prof. Philip Krein, Executive Dean of ZJUI; Li Erping, Dean of ZJUI, Assistant Dean Lu Qiang, several ZJUI teachers were also present at the event.

Prof. Taher Saif from UIUC Department of Mechanical Engineering gave a brief introduction of his department and introduced what courses would Mechanical Engineering students possibly take in the future. Prof. Liang Y. Liu from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering introduced the learning fields of Civil and Environmental Engineering along with some prominent accomplishments of CEE Department; he used examples of novelty to stimulate the innovation of students, leading them to picture the forefront research direction of Civil Engineering. Prof. Erhan Kudeki from Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering used a series of data and figures to vividly sketch the current situation of his department, mainly involving faculty and students, student-study-environment, along with the major assignments for students. Prof. Jonathan J. Makela from Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, also the Director of Academic Affairs of UIUC-ZJU Partnership, spoke of his days as a college student, gave the students suggestions especially on learning strategies, and expressed his wishes that when the students recalled their days at college decades after, they will not regret their time spent on extracurriculars as a student.

The students stated their views without reserve, and raised questions about college, studying contents, learning strategies and life plans; also, the faculty at present all answered with patience, combining their rich experience with their deep comprehension to the corresponding subjects, they also lectured on study and research strategies and even talked of their understanding of life.
