On the afternoon of October 11th, the 2024 Plenary Meeting of ZJUI was successfully held. Academician Lee Der-Horng, Dean of ZJUI, Prof. Jin Jianming, Executive Dean of ZJUI, Prof. Ma Hao, Vice Dean of ZJUI, and Prof. Wang Hongwei, Vice Dean of ZJUI, attended the meeting. Over 50 faculty members and staff gathered to discuss ideas and strategies for key initiative and work together to advance ZJUI's high-quality development. Prof. Wang Hongwei chaired the meeting.
Dean Lee Der-Horng first conveyed the spirit of the summer work meeting of Zhejiang University and the International Campus and reviewed the strategic achievements of the Institute in international collaboration, education, research and innovation, and faculty development in 2024. He emphasized that under the guidance of ZJUI2025, all faculty and staff should adhere to the original intention of education and fully implement the fundamental task of moral education by taking the construction of distinctive disciplines and top-quality courses as the starting point; Take multiple measures to create a faculty "introduction, cultivation, retention, and utilization" ecosystem, focus on faculty echelon construction, and strengthen the balance and sustainability of various disciplinary faculty teams; Focusing on large-scale research platforms, gradually establishing a cooperation mechanism of "PI-PI Group Team PI", promoting organized research to gather scientific and technological innovation forces; Strengthen the awareness of rules and take proactive actions to enhance the resilience of the Institute's governance system. He hoped that all faculty and staff will vigorously promote the spirit of ownership, tighten their responsibilities, improve work quality and efficiency, raise awareness and begin with an end in mind, and jointly promote the implementation and effectiveness of various work in the Institute, and work together to write a new chapter for the high-quality development of ZJUI.

Professor Jin Jianming stressed that the partnership between UIUC and Zhejiang University at ZJUI has achieved great success during the past 8 years, and he mentioned the challenges faced by UIUC, Zhejiang University, and ZJUI, and emphasized the importance of fully recognizing the role of English proficiency in cultivating international engineering professionals with a global perspective, strictly implementing the concept of English-medium instruction, and comprehensively improving students' English proficiency. Also, he stated that we should be more proactive in recruiting and providing special assistances to international faculty to help them carry out leading research on a global scale; have more involvement of the faculty in the management and operation in the Institute, to continuously promote the modernization of the governance system and governance capacity and stimulate the vitality of education.

Professor Ma Hao conveyed Zhejiang University's commitment to deepening the promotion of higher quality development of first-class undergraduate education and arranging for the Undergraduate Education and Teaching Review and Evaluation. Through introducing various aspects such as the evaluation schedule, evaluation type, and material preparation, he comprehensively deployed the evaluation work and put forward clear requirements. He emphasized that all faculty members and staff must deeply understand the Zhejiang University's mission and vision, as well as the undergraduate education philosophy, and the importance of the new round of review and evaluation for the teaching reform, student cultivation, and development of the Institute, advance the review and evaluation progress according to the time nodes, compare standards, identify shortcomings, and continuously improve. With a more rigorous and meticulous style and a fuller spirit, all faculty and staff should complete the review and evaluation work with high quality.

Wang Hongwei conducted a comprehensive review and outlook on graduate education and research work in the first half of the year. He first highlighted the achievements and challenges faced by graduate education in terms of disciplinary categories, enrollment scale, and doctoral education, and summarized the research progress since the beginning of this year. He particularly emphasized that with the joint efforts of all faculty members, ZJUI has demonstrated vigorous research vitality and achieved excellent results in multiple fields. Looking ahead to the future, he emphasized that the faculty and staff of the institute should unify together to break through and innovate while focusing on key areas, further strengthen the construction of research teams and graduate education and promote new leaps in the institute's research and student cultivation.

The 2024 Plenary Meeting focused on the strategic objective of building a world-class engineering institute. Key discussions aimed to clarify work directions, consolidate responsibilities, and strengthen the confidence of all faculty and staff. Participants were encouraged to leverage this opportunity to refine their goals and contribute to a new chapter of excellence for the Institute. Additionally, the meeting featured a ceremony honoring newly recruited faculty members with official certificates, welcoming them to the ZJUI community.
