On September 12, ZJUI 2024 Retreat was successfully held. Attendees included Prof. Li Hanying, Dean of the International Campus, Zhejiang University, Prof. Wu Jian, Vice Dean of the International Campus, Mr. Zhou Jinqi, Assistant Dean and Director of the Office of Academic Affairs of the Campus, Prof. Lee Der-Horng, Dean of ZJUI, Prof. Jin Jianming, Executive Dean of ZJUI, Prof. Ma Hao, Vice Dean of ZJUI, and Prof. Wang Hongwei, Vice Dean of ZJUI, attended the meeting. Representatives of faculty and staff gathered to focus on key work of the Institute, deeply analyze the current situation and future development, and collaboratively plan for the new semester's priorities. The retreat was hosted by Prof. Ma Hao.

Prof. Li Hanying emphasized the importance of steadfastly fostering education at the International Campus, and continuously enhancing the reputation of undergraduate education as a "golden brand." He pointed out that 2024 is designated as the year for improving the quality of undergraduate education at Zhejiang University. He urged everyone to adopt a positive attitude towards the evaluation of undergraduate teaching, using this as an opportunity to comprehensively summarize the advantages of current undergraduate education, establish a high-quality support mechanism for education, and fully showcase and extend the excellent experiences of the International Campus. Finally, he encouraged ZJUI faculty to actively cultivate internationalized and interdisciplinary engineering innovators, resonating with the development of the Institute and Campus in a mutually reinforcing manner, and contributing to the construction of the international collaborative education model.

Prof. Lee Der-Horng highlighted the strategic achievements of the Institute in global relations, research & innovation, and governance & leadership. Looking towards the strategic pillars for ZJUI 2025, he stressed that the Institute should focus on the forefront of global technological advancements, proactively tackle challenges across global networks.He also highlighted the importance of enhancing strategic innovation capabilities to create unlimited possibilities with limited resources and using the construction of distinctive disciplines and high-quality courses as a lever to comprehensively improve the quality of engineering education. He called on faculty and staff to strengthen problem orientation, take initiative and responsibility, and adopt a long-term view for sustained efforts, collectively promoting the higher-level development of the Institute.

Prof. Wu Jian was invited to deliver a special report on international cooperation. He proposed adhering to the concept of cooperation and sharing, actively integrating resources from industry, university, and research, accelerating the construction of an open and innovative ecosystem, while further enhancing the International Campus and Institute's capability in building and expanding international cooperation platforms, nurturing international cooperation projects, and supporting the cultivation of outstanding young scholars.

During the meeting, in-depth discussions were held among faculty and staff on key issues such as the construction and nurturing of large research platforms and projects, graduate education management, undergraduate experimental courses and academic systems, and undergraduate education and teaching evaluation. A series of improvement ideas and work measures were proposed regarding specific issues currently faced by the Institute, providing insights and suggestions for future reforms and development in various areas.
The retreat focused on the goal of building the international collaborative education model and providing world-class engineering education, analyzing and assessing the current situation, and pragmatically seeking practical solutions. ZJUI Faculty and staff will anchor their goals, forge ahead, and unite efforts to promote the high-quality and leapfrog development of the Institute.
