Recently, Academician Lee Der-Horng, Dean of ZJUI, led a delegation to visit the Imperial College London. They exchanged ideas related to cooperation in various fields in the future. Prof. Chen Xiqun, the Director of the Institute of Intelligent Transportation Systems, ZJU, and Assist Prof. Simon Hu, the Assistant Dean of ZJUI participated in the visit.
The delegation visited Prof. Daniel Graham, Director of the Transport Research Center of Imperial College London, and Fellow Washington Yotto Ochieng, Chief Professor of Imperial College London. Academician Lee Der-Horng introduced the basic information, research teams, research outputs and situation of international cooperation of ZJUI. Both sides exchanged their ideas towards the research fields and ways of cooperation, and both expressed strong wishes to cooperation. As one of the first nine leading universities in the world to join the Sustainable Smart Livable Cities Alliance, Imperial College London has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Zhejiang University to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism led by Zhejiang University to explore and evaluate policies and research topics including smart city construction, smart transportation systems, smart logistics and transportation systems. It proposed the vision of building a smart, sustainable, and livable future city together with the research forces of Zhejiang University, including ZJUI and Institute of Intelligent Transportation Systems, and promoting international scientific and technological innovation exchanges that are open, inclusive, mutually beneficial and shared. Academician Lee Der-Horng noted that ZJUI is willing to continuously explore cooperation fields including academic exchange visits, program cooperation and joint lab construction with Imperial College London. Both sides have actively discussed possible areas of cooperation in the future and look forward to further team integration and resource optimization on the basis of long-term successful cooperation between the two sides, in order to achieve the goal of focusing on academia and creating a win-win situation.
Fellow Washington Yotto Ochieng is one of the World's top experts, Chief Professor of Imperial College London, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, (2009 GPS World named him as global-concerned GNSS senior expert) enjoys a high reputation in the industry. He has had a significant and continuing influence in the fields of navigation and positioning, Geographic Information System (GIS), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Air Traffic Management (ATM). The delegation also took this opportunity to invite Fellow Washington Yotto Ochieng to deliver a wonderful lecture at the Juanhu International Academician Lecture Hall.
This visit constructed a platform in which ZJUI and Imperial College London could have academic cooperation together and established a strong basis for the future cooperation. The delegation noted that they will continuously deepen the cooperation relationship between the two sides and promote the progress of global research.

In 2016, Zhejiang University began to cooperate with Imperial College London in education, training, outreach, exchange, and other aspects. Both sides attach great importance to building a broad platform for exchange and cooperation, innovating cooperation mechanisms, broadening cooperation fields, elevating cooperation levels, and promoting interdisciplinary integration and cross-field and cross-border research cooperation.
