Xu Ruiling
Volunteer of the 19th Asian Games
26’ Computer Engineering undergraduate of ZJUI
Head of the Volunteer Service Center of the International Campus, ZJU
She has always been enthusiastic about public welfare. On the occasion of the Asian Games, she has the privilege of becoming a member of "Xiao qinghe" (Nick name of volunteers of the 19th Asian Games) and has actively participated in the volunteer service work of the Asian Games, including the production and filming of the Zhejiang University Asian Games MV, foreign guest reception, and coordination of co-host city visit needs.
Embrace the Asian Games with youth flying
I almost never hesitated from beginning to end! It seemed that the stars are aligned for me to meet the Asian Games! Although there were many difficulties to overcome during this period: inevitably traveling back and forth, and sacrificing learning time, she chose to firmly seize the precious opportunity to serve as a volunteer for the Asian Games, looking forward to making her contribution to the Asian Games.
Before the opening of the Asian Games, Xu Ruiling was selected by the production team of Zhejiang University to present the Asian Games MV with her piano and music skills. The "Xiao qinghe" with their respective strengths in the team, with their affection and enthusiasm, created an original MV "Riding the Tide towards the Future" as volunteers of Zhejiang University for the Asian Games. The various stages of MV production, including song creation, storyboard design, filming, recording, and editing, were completely completed by these ZJUers. This is also the perfect interpretation of the volunteer spirit of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress"!
Shining silently behind the Asian Games
"Xiao qinghe take on much more and more important work than I expected," Xu Ruiling shared. “It requires us to work from dawn to dusk, and we need to communicate in English at all times during work.” Her job is to provide assistance to foreign guests at the information service desk of the OCA (Olympic Council of Asia) Family Headquarters Hotel, coordinate with the co-host cities in transportation, accommodation, and other aspects to meet the needs of foreign guests visiting the co-host city. But more often than not, she is also a versatile person who can always respond to urgent needs, helping security personnel translate, assisting in handling ticket issues, handling awards and emergencies... All kinds of tasks test her ability to withstand pressure and coordinate.

During her volunteer service, Xu Ruiling had the opportunity to meet various honorable guests, such as Raja Randhir Singh, Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Ding Ning, table tennis champion, and Hui Ruoqi, women's volleyball champion. Among them, she encountered with Charoen Wattanasin and his family, the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and the Chairman of the Badminton Association of Thailand. The meeting brought her the most unexpected joy. She had a great conversation with them at the dinner party and accompanied them to travel around Hangzhou. Xu Ruiling was amazed by their youthful and energetic mental state at the age of 86 and was fortunate enough to have a noble cause that he was willing to dedicate his life to. They brought Xu Ruiling many new thoughts on life or career, and she was also full of hope and expectations for the future because of them. When they parted ways, they made an appointment to meet again in Thailand or China and exchanged gifts such as Thai Olympic badges and Asian Games postcards of ZJU to show the joy of meeting.

Accumulating tiny light to brighten all the way for others
In fact, "public welfare activities" have already become an indispensable part of her life. In junior high school, with the encouragement of her Chinese teacher, she initiated a public welfare activity with her classmates called "Reading Virus", which symbolized the hope that the habit of reading would spread like a virus among the crowd. Through internal and external publicity, filming promotional videos, writing proposal letters, and making cultural shirts, it has had a significant impact in the middle schools in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. It was during her first "initial experience of public welfare" that she felt the tremendous power and sense of achievement of starting from the details and personally practicing making the world a better place, making her a passionate and tireless devotee of public welfare.

Along the way, Xu Ruiling's enthusiasm for volunteer service has always been unchanged. As the head of the Volunteer Service Center on the International Campus, she has never given up any opportunities to explore public welfare programs and promote social positive energy. Also, she is actively responsible for recruiting volunteers for various activities and hope to "explore the way ahead" to create more high-quality practical opportunities for students on the International Campus. Since entering university, Xu Ruiling has been active in various volunteer practice activities: she went to Jingdong Wuliang Middle School in Yunnan to teach during the summer, participated in online teaching in spring, and led the investigation group from the International Campus, Zhejiang University to Chengdu and Hangzhou during winter vacation to carry out activities and won the first prize in winter vacation college student social practice activities... In just one year, her cumulative volunteer hours have exceeded 250 hours.
