ZJUI 2023 Summer School was successfully held

The 2023 Summer School for Outstanding University Students of Zhejiang University- University of Illinois at Urbana Champion Institute (ZJUI) was successfully held from July 14th to 16th. Nearly a hundred outstanding students from all over the country gathered in Haining to engage in in-depth discussions with ZJUI's diverse mentor team, personally experiencing the academic environment, research atmosphere, educational features, development opportunities, and the living conditions of the international campus.

The opening ceremony of the summer school was graced by a speech from Academician Lee Der-horng, Dean of ZJUI. During the speech, he encouraged everyone to open their heart and participate with passions, understanding ZJUI through various activities, clearing the direction of development as well. He also hoped that more and more outstanding students would choose ZJUI, in which they could explore new field and become engineering and scientific intellectuals with a global perspective and innovative spirit.

Prof. Wang Hongwei, Vice Dean of ZJUI, presented a detailed introduction to ZJUI's graduate programs and educational features, providing camp participants with a more comprehensive understanding of the institute. Assistant Prof. Li Chushan, Yang Hao and Wang Gaoang etc. represented different directions of disciplines and expressed a warm welcome to the students.


 

As an engineering institute that merges Eastern and Western cultures, boasts multidisciplinary studies, and encourages research crossover, ZJUI arranged seven sub-camps during the three-day summer school. These sub-camps covered fields / directions of next-gen electronic information technology, computer technology, power engineering, electric engineering, civil and hydraulic engineering, artificial intelligence digital health and sustainable smart city, etc.  Each camp was distinct, offering diverse academic exchange activities. Participants not only had the opportunity to visit advanced laboratories but also interacted face-to-face with top-tier faculty members, engaging in discussions on cutting-edge academic topics. Academic and industrial experts including Dr. Na Xiaoxiang, Assistant Professor from the University of Cambridge and Dr. Zhang Wei, Vice President of SUPCON, held enthusiastic discussions with students.

 

Either discussing advanced technology of artificial intelligence, exploring innovative plans for constructing sustainable cities or visiting RoboMaster Lab to interact with students who are preparing for the competition, all the students actively participated, demonstrating solid professional literacy and enthusiasm for research and innovation. The summer school also featured a series of professional quality assessment activities.

Nearly one hundred outstanding students from 35 top tier universities nationwide including Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Sichan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Southeast University took part in the summer school. Furthermore, students form international institutes like Glasgow College, UESTC are also included. students got familiar with ZJUI through on-site consultation for Zhejiang University graduate student enrollment policy, ZJUI promotion activities in various universities or diversified academic competitions and other channels. This event was a manifestation of their passion for academia and their aspirations for the future. It marked the beginning of their journey to ZJUI's international campus, bringing them together at ZJUI's inaugural offline summer camp.

 

The intention of ZJUI’s 2023 Summer School for Outstanding University Students is to ignite student’s inspiration to research and provide support for their academic and research development. The institute will keep providing high quality education environment and rich research platforms, to attract even more exceptional students to join hands in exploring cutting-edge technology, and crafting a chapter of collaborative research and learning.
