Prof. Der-Horng LEE and Prof. XIAO Yan of ZJUI, were selected into the 2022 "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list by Elsevier

On March 28th, Elsevier, a global information analysis and academic literature publishing company, released the 2022 "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list. Zhejiang University ranked second among domestic universities with 204 people on the list. Among them, Prof. Der-Horng LEE and Prof. XIAO Yan, from Zhejiang University-University of Illinois Urbana Champagne (ZJUI), were selected, reflecting the unanimous recognition of ZJUI's research achievements in relevant fields by international peers and the gradual manifestation of its academic influence.

 

It is reported that there are 5216 scholars on the list, including 504 universities, enterprises, and research institutions, covering 84 first-level disciplines in 10 disciplines of the Ministry of Education. Only 58 people from the transportation engineering discipline to which Fellow Der-Horng LEE affiliates were selected this time, while 107 people from the civil engineering discipline to which Prof. XIAO Yan affiliates were selected.

Prof. Der-Horng LEE

 

Fellow Der-Horng LEE is an expert in the field of transportation engineering. Prof. Lee was graduated with his PhD degree from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in 1996. He has served as Dean of ZJUI, Qiushi Chair Professor and doctoral supervisor. He is an elected Fellow, Executive Committee Member, Director of the Academic Division of Transportation of Academy of Engineering Singapore (SAEng) and the support specialist for the Kunpeng Program. He has more than 30 years of professional experience in the fields of transportation and logistics system analysis, modeling, optimization, and algorithms, and is deeply engaged in research work in the field of intelligent transportation, urban rail transit, urban and regional transportation planning, transportation policy, intelligent port and shipping logistics, artificial intelligence, and big data in the transportation field. He is the Chief Editor of the internationally important academic journal in the field of transportation "EURO Journal on Transportation and Logistics," the Associate Editor of the journals "IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems" and "Journal of Infrastructure, Policy and Development," and the Editor of six internationally authoritative academic journals such as "International Journal of Sustainable Transportation." He was an Honoree of 2002 TR100 Award (renamed to TR35 in 2005) by MIT’s Technology Review and has been selected for many times in the World's Top 2% Scientists list released by Stanford University in the United States. In 2021, he was selected as the "Nanshan Award" for recognizing outstanding scientific and technological scholars. As a full-time foreign fellow working in China, he was interviewed by President XI Jinping in Beijing in October 2019.

Prof. XIAO Yan

 

Prof. XIAO Yan, an expert in structural engineering, joined ZJUI in June 2018. He received his bachelor's degree in Engineering from Tianjin University in 1982 and received his master’s and PhD degree in Engineering from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan in 1986 and 1989 respectively. He has served as a tenured full professor in the University of Southern California, Dean of College of Civil Engineering of Nanjing Tech University and Hunan University and is now a research professor of the Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the University of Southern California. Prof. XIAO Yan's research includes the seismic and anti-explosion design and reinforcement of engineering structures; structural application of high-performance materials and fiber reinforced plastics (FRP); structural experiment method; the development and application of new steel, wood and bamboo composite structures and modern bamboo structures. He has published more than 400 technical publications, including more than 150 papers in international SCI journals, many of which are groundbreaking and influential, and have been highly cited by scholars around the world. Since 2014, he has been selected into the "Civil and Structural Engineering" category list of China's highly cited scholars by Elsevier for many times. This year, he was selected into the World's Top 2% Scientists issued by Stanford University. To promote environmental and ecological friendliness, he has been committed to developing modern bamboo structures in recent years. He has a number of patents and internationally awarded GluBam ® Technology. The research and application of modern bamboo structure was rated as the best innovation in 2008 by American magazine Progress in Science and Technology. In May 2022, Prof. XIAO Yan's monograph Engineered Bamboo Structures published by Taylor&Francis CRC Press is the first monograph on modern engineering bamboo structures in the world. In 2021, Prof. XIAO Yan founded the Zhejiang University (Ninghai) Joint Research Center for Bio-based Materials and Carbon Neutral Development. At present, his team is engaged in a number of groundbreaking research and engineering practices.

 

The 2022 Elsevier "Highly Cited Chinese Scholars" list uses Elsevier's citation and index database Scopus as a statistical source to deeply analyze and identify Chinese scholars at different stages of their research careers from multiple dimensions and systematically display their research achievements.
