Recently, the province’s science and technology innovation conference was held in the Provincial Great Hall of the people. During the meeting, 306 Zhejiang Science and Technology Awards of 2021 was awarded, including 2 Zhejiang Science and Technology Awards, 299 Zhejiang Natural Science Awards, Technological Invention Awards and Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 5 awards for International Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Among them, ZJUI Professor LI Erping won the first prize of Natural Science in Zhejiang Province.

The winning project “Discovery and Mechanism of Inversedd Cerenkov Radiation in Artificial Electromagnetic Materials” was completed by the team of Professor CHEN Hongsheng from the College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering in ZJU and Professor LI Erping from ZJUI. Aiming at the core science problem of inversed Cerenkov radiation in artificial electromagnetic materials, the research put forward a new method to design negative refractive index materials for inversed Cerenkov radiation. Also, the inversed Cerenkov radiation was experimentally verified for the first time, and a new mechanism of interface inversed Cerenkov radiation was found.
