On June 21, 2022, Zhejiang University-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJUI) and Zhejiang Big Data Development Center (ZJBDDC) had an in-depth discussion about deepening government-university cooperation, promoting the development and utilization of public data resources, and empowering the digitalization reform.

 

 

The conference focused on data support, management, and cooperation with talents in sustainable smart city construction, intelligent transportation, online autonomous driving, etc. Based on the research cooperation on critical technologies of data openness and integration in Zhejiang Province, the participants hoped to fully exploit the value of data and establish an efficient circulation and safety assurance system to provide a strong impetus for the high-level construction of the Common Prosperity Demonstration Area.

Academician Der-Horng LEE, Qiushi Chair Professor of ZJU and Dean of ZJUI, emphasized the importance of data mining and analysis to urban planning based on the project cooperation experience in Singapore and Guangzhou. He looked forward to more cooperation and communication with ZJBDDC and more chances to exchange needs and maximize the utilization of data resources. The university would give full play to its academic research advantages, rely on the “Intelligent Transportation Integration” project of the Kunpeng Plan, and explore data-based social characteristics. The research would assist the efficient operation of urban transportation and promote socio-economic development of the city in various fields like city development and energy conservation.

JIN Jiahe, chairman of ZJBDDC, delivered a report on “Implementing the Zhejiang Regulations on Public Data and Promoting In-Depth Development and Utilization of Public Data Resources.” He introduced the development process and requirements of Zhejiang’s digitalization reform under the National Big Data Strategy. The report focused on constructing an integrated intelligent data platform and the requirements of the Zhejiang Regulations on Public Data in six aspects, emphasizing security and standardized efficient data sharing. Concurrently, he introduced ongoing projects with ZJU in the hope of further strengthening cooperation and giving full play to the value of data.

 

 

Prof. WANG Hongwei, Deputy Dean of ZJUI, introduced the growth of the Institute and the International Campus from multiple perspectives, such as student cultivation, academic research, campus development, etc. The introduction fully reflects the characteristics of solid teaching staff, international students, elaborate cultivation, multi-disciplinary integration, and high-standard scientific research practices. He hoped to exploit the talents and academic advantages of the Campus and achieve data-driven in-depth cooperation with the government.

 

 

WANG Wei, director of Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Data Openness and Integration, introduced the Lab’s objectives, business model, cooperation mode, framework of resources, and data circulation system. At the same time, in the face of enormous data and the accompanying challenges in security, reliability, operation, and maintenance, he hoped to work closely with the government, universities, and enterprises to jointly support the smooth and efficient utilization of urban data.

 

 

Researchers HU Juan, LIU Zuozhu, WANG Gaoang, LI Binbin, and YANG Hao, representatives of faculty members in related fields of ZJUI, introduced the latest research results in urban transportation, smart medical care, intelligent monitoring, real-time status assessment of urban infrastructure, and data privacy protection.

 

 

Experts and leaders from Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Data Openness and Integration Key Technology Research, Haining Municipal Service and Data Resource Management Office, Haining Development and Reform Bureau, and Digital Zhejiang Technology Operation Co., Ltd. also attended the conference.
