On June 8th, ZJUI held the " Chat with Our Deans " Faculty Meeting and Faculty Fellows Program mobilization meeting in the ZJUI Building. Through face-to-face in-depth exchanges, Prof. LEE Der-Horng, Dean of ZJUI, introduced the relevant channels and training programs for the development of faculty members in the institute, listened to faculty members' opinions and suggestions on the development of the institute to enhance communication and understanding among faculty members for them to work together to promote development. The two sessions of the conference were presided over by Prof. LEE Der-Horng, and Prof. CHEN Xiqun, Vice Dean of ZJUI, respectively.
In the first session of the " Chat with Our Deans " Faculty Meeting, Prof. LEE Der-Horng gave a brief report on the introduction and development of faculty of the institute, and further emphasized the importance and necessity of implementing and promoting the key tasks of ZJUI in 2022. He pointed out that we should further formalize the operations of undergraduate overseas exchange program, further refine strategic research directions and raising up teams with recognized national-level leading position, crystalize the strategies and steps to build up sustainable “talent echelons”, and deeply explore promising interdisciplinary new fields including but not limited to Sustainable Liveability, Energy, Power, Carbon Neutrality, AI for healthcare, etc. He emphasized that cross-disciplinary and internationalized together constitute two key characteristics of the international campus, and the two are interdependent and complementary. ZJUI should actively explore new cross-disciplinary directions and fields such as Sustainable Carbon Neutrality, AI for healthcare, further promote cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research, and build a world-class engineering education and research system that is diverse and innovative.
In the second session of the ZJUI Faculty Fellows Program mobilization meeting, Prof. JIN Jianming, Executive Dean of ZJUI, introduced the background and purpose of sending young faculty members to UIUC for exchange programs, as well as the positive impact on young faculty members. Assist. Prof. Simon Hu, Assist. Prof. LI Chushan Assoc. Prof. WEE-Liat Ong, Assist. Prof. TAN Shurun and Assoc. Prof. ZHU Tingju, shared their experiences, thoughts, and gains from participating in the program. Prof. LEE Der-Horng put forward the difficulties faced by the exchange program due to the epidemic and other reasons and directions for improvement. He suggested that young faculty members should start to plan as soon as possible to avoid conflicts with the increasing number of teaching, scientific research and administrative affairs. He also hoped that young faculty members can learn more about UIUC's teaching experience and successful practices in this program and establish long-term and stable cooperative relationships with UIUC faculty members.
The participating faculty members conducted extensive exchanges and discussions on matters such as teaching, research, training and personal development. This unique discussion and exchange played a positive role in enhancing team cohesion and promoting the development of the institute.
