Assistant Professor Mark D. Butala received the Honor Award of the 'Beautiful City & Residents'

On May 18, the "Jiaxing Talent Day" launch ceremony was grandly held. At the ceremony, ZJUI Assistant Professor Mark D. Butala, as one of the seven outstanding Jiaxing talent representatives selected by the organizer, described his life at ZJUI, in Jiaxing and told the story of his coming to work in Jiaxing from the United States. He was awarded the Honor Award of the 'Beautiful City & Residents' .

Mark D. Butala earned his Ph.D. in 2010 from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He then joined the technical staff at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology as a member of the Ionospheric and Atmospheric Remote Sensing group. In 2017, he joined the faculty at the ZJU-UIUC Institute, International Campus, Zhejiang University. His research interests include the theory of remotely sensed image formation, Monte Carlo and statistical signal processing theory and practice, and the application of rigorous Bayesian methodology to big data problems in science. He obtained several honors since he join ZJUI, such as the Honor of Jiaxing Tip-Top Talents and the Excellence Award of the 2019 Teaching Contest of ZJU.
