Introduction:
Oleksiy Penkov is currently an associate professor at the Zhejiang University/the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJU-UIUC). He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the National Technical University “KhPI” (Ukraine). In 2007, he received his doctorate in physics and mathematics, with a specialty in solid-state physics. During 2011–2019, he was a research professor at the Center for Nano-Wear at Yonsei University (Korea). His research interests cover several areas of physics, materials science, and mechanical engineering, such as nano-layered coatings, tribology, and surface engineering. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles in the field of tribology of graphene and graphene-based materials.
