Ⅰ. General Information about ZJU-UIUC Institute
The Zhejiang University-University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Institute (the ZJU-UIUC Institute or ZJUI) is a cooperatively-run engineering college on the Zhejiang University (ZJU) International Campus in Haining, China. It breaks down boundaries between traditional engineering disciplines in order to cultivate multidisciplinary knowledge convergence and cross cooperation.

*Way of Payment: Application fee and ZJU tuition fee should be paid in the online application system.If one fails to make the online payment, then one MUST pay the application fee to the University’s Bank Account(Link), and upload the remittance letter to the System.
Ⅱ. Application
2.1 Application Duration
From now on to May 31st, 2024.
2.2 Application Portal
Applicants must complete the application in the Online Application System for International Students(Link) before the deadline, provide all materials in full as required, and pay the application fee.
Step1:Click the "Apply Now" button, make your application through the system. Create an account, fill in all the required informations in the application system.
Step 2:Submit required materials in the system: An admission essay/ High school transcripts/ Transcripts of recognized tests such as ACT or SAT or IB or A-level from the examining authority/ Transcripts of recognized English tests such as TOEFL or IELTS if your native language is not English
Step 3:Submit your application and pay the application fee.
Applications are reviewed based on all factors in the application record, and will not be considered until they have submitted all materials.
Ⅲ. Eligibility
3.1 General Requirements
a. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and valid foreign passport holders.
b. Under the age of 25. Applicants must have graduated from high school (Those who provide pre-graduation certificate or student status certificate at application MUST provide, the graduation certificate no later than registration).
c. With proper moral conduct, in good health with no infectious disease or any physical or mental diseases that may affect the normal study.
3.2 Requirements on Citizenship
Requirements of the regulations set in the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC should be met(Link).
a. Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship (including residents in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan)and become foreign citizens, must accquire foreign citizenship before April 30, 2020, and must have lived abroad more than 2 years from April 30, 2020 to April 30, 2024 (more than 9 months of residence abroad per year can be considered as one year, taking entry and exit stamps as evidence).
b. If the applicant has acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, whose parents were both Chinese citizens, or one of the parents was a Chinese citizen, parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent resident in foreign country should be obtained prior to the birth of the applicant. Applicants must have lived abroad more than 2 years from April 30, 2020 to April 30, 2024 (more than 9 months of residence abroad per year can be considered as one year, taking entry and exit stamps as evidence).
Note: If the applicant is concluded to have Chinese citizenship by the Chinese public security department after application, admission or enrollment, the applicant will be disqualified from application, admission or enrollment or withdrawal from school will be required.
3.3 Language Proficiency Requirements
There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for the applicants of English-taught programs. If applicants’ native language is not English, they should provide score report of English language test (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/OTHER).
Notes:
a. Results of international standard tests (e.g. SAT/IB/GCE A-LEVEL/ACT) are accepted. It is strongly recommended to provide the student’s relative ranking and school transcripts.
b. The A-level predicted results are accepted during the application process, while the formal results should be provided in order to get the final offer.
c. Application materials must be in Chinese or English, and notarized copies of translations must be provided for texts in other languages.
d. Please do NOT post the hard copies of the application materials. Application materials sent by post will NOT be reviewed and processed.
e. ZJUI will arrange a video interview and may ask the applicants to submit supplementary materials.
Ⅳ.Scholarships & Financial Aid

Highly qualified applicants will be considered for the International Excellence Scholarships, which cover : Partial Tuition Waiver: CNY 80,000 ~ CNY 200,000 per academic year |
*Each scholarship will be reviewed annually and renewed up to 4 academic years according to the rules of Zhejiang University and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. *For all scholarships, no support will be given during the exchange at UIUC. All tuition, fees, and other expenses during the exchange wil be paid by the applicant. |
Ⅴ. Selection Process, Admission and Notification
5.1 Students are enrolled on the basis of competitive selection according to their academic performance in senior high school, language proficiency and performance in the interview,etc. The university will determine the name list of preliminary admission in different batches according to the application received. Applicants can also log on the Online Application System (Link) to track the admission process.
5.2 Applicants who receive the Pre-Admission Notice should prepay the first year tuition fee on the Online Application System within the specific time period stated on the Notice. If the applicant is not able to make the online payment due to certain reason, then one MUST pay the tuition fee to the University’s Bank Account(Link), and upload the remittance letter to the System. The pre-admission will be canceled if applicants fail to prepay the first year tuition fee within the stated time period.
5.3 Admission Notice can be downloaded from the Online Application System(Link) from the end of June, 2024. Download link of the electronic Confirmation Form for Study in China (for visa)will be sent to the permanent email address filled in the application system by the applicant.
Notes:
a. When wiring tuition fee to the university bank account, you must fill in the application serial number, applicant’s name.
b. The university would only reserve study places for students who have paid the tuition for the first academic year in advance. If students later, for personal reasons, give up schooling or apply for withdrawal procedures after registration, resulting in a vacancy in the school’s enrollment, prepaid tuition fees for the first academic year will NOT be refunded.
c. For the admitted students who are disqualified by the university as they fail to meet the school’s registration requirements, the prepaid tuition fee will NOT be refunded.
Ⅵ. Registration
6.1 Undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University usually start from late August or early September every year. For exact registration dates, please refer to the Admission Notice.
6.2 Admitted applicants should register with the university strictly according to the time specified in the admission notice.The original graduation certificate and original language proficiency certificate will be checked upon registration. Those who fail to provide the original copies will be disqualified from enrollment.
Ⅶ. Medical Insurance
Fee: 800 RMB yuan/academic year
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education, international students who study for one semester or longer must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in the mainland of China as a necessary requirement for their registration for the new semester.
Students who fail to purchase the comprehensive medical insurance as required will NOT be registered by the university.
Information related to purchasing insurance will be notified in detail before registration. The admitted students should handle insurance affairs strictly according to the instructions on the notice.
