Academician Yang Huayong from the School of Mechanical Engineering Visited ZJUI

On the morning of October 15, Academician Yang Huayong, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, came to ZJUI to conduct research and exchange ideas. The two sides held discussions on subjects such as discipline construction, talent cultivation, talent introduction and scientific research management.
Professor Li Erping, Dean of ZJUI, extended a warm welcome to the visitors and thanks the School of Mechanical Engineering for their support since the establishment of ZJUI on behalf of the International Campus Zhejiang University. Dean Li introduced the development history, schooling situation and future planning of the International Campus to the guests. He said that the cooperation between the two colleges has strong complementarity, which is conducive to cultivating more and more outstanding talents for Zhejiang University and contributes to promoting the first-class disciplines construction of Zhejiang University in the field of mechanical engineering. Dean Li hoped that the School of Mechanical Engineering would continue to support ZJUI in the interviews of talent introduction and provide necessary assistance in the application of the research projects of ZJUI’s new teachers as well as the recruitment and training of doctoral students.
Academician Yang fully affirmed ZJUI’s achievements since its establishment and hoped that the two campuses could further close the relationship and expand the space for cooperation. Academician Yang pointed out that as one of the oldest departments of Zhejiang University, the School of Mechanical Engineering is accelerating the layout and adjustment of disciplines under the background of the “Double First-class” construction of Zhejiang University. At the same time, in the latest round of disciplinary assessment, it was found that the index of internationalization needs to be improved. He hoped that through the cooperation with ZJUI in this respect the promotion of the discipline will accelerate. By analyzing how the cooperation between the School of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute had helped the mechanical disciplines achieve a huge leap in the short term, Academician Yang hoped that the two institutes could also achieve or even exceed this kind of cooperative effect. Academician Yang hopes that more outstanding teachers from ZJUI will teach in the School of Mechanical Engineering in the future.
Vice President of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Ju Bingfeng, Chairman of the Committee of the Commission, Fu Xin, Director of the Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Xu Bing, Director of the Institute of Mechanical Design, Tong Shuiguang, Director of the Institute of Micro-Nano Technology and Precision Engineering, Liu Tao, and the heads of the relevant department, ZJUI Vice Dean Ma Hao, the Head of the Civil Engineering program, Xiao Yan and the relevant teachers and administrators of the International Campus participated in the discussion and exchanged views on teaching, research and laboratory construction.
