Professor Li Erping, Dean of ZJUI, was invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new president of Harvard University

On October 5, Prof. Erping Li, Dean of ZJUI, was invited to participate in the Academic Forum on Transformational Numbers and Digital Science in a Transformational World held at Harvard University.The forum will be attended by scholars from Harvard University and other prestigious institutions and institutions to discuss the theoretical and applied research challenges in basic science arising from the current transformation of digital science.The forum was held during the inauguration ceremony of Professor Lawrence S. Bacow, the 29th president of Harvard University. Dean Li Ping was invited by the principal leaders of Harvard University to attend the ceremony and presented a gift to the new president.

During the brief exchange with President Bacow, Dean Li conveyed the sincere congratulations and cordial greetings from President Wu Zhaohui to President Bacow. He hoped that the two universities could further strengthen cooperation in various fields, deepen academic exchanges and promote the common development of the two universities. He also sincerely invited President Bacow to visit Zhejiang University at his convenient time.Bacow thanked Li for his gift on behalf of ZJU and for his participation in the inauguration ceremony. Bacow said he would further expand cooperation with ZJU during his term of office and looked forward to visiting ZJU in the future.

President Bacow was born in Detroit in 1951 and holds a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master's and doctoral degrees from Harvard University.In 2001, Professor Bacow was elected President of Tufts University.In 2010, President Barack Obama appointed Professor Bacow to his White House Advisory Council.In 2011, Professor Bacow joined Harvard's Board of Trustees as a member of the university's two main management teams.In addition, he has served and taught at Harvard University's School of Education and the Kennedy School.The university began the process of selecting a new president in 2017, and Professor Bacow was chosen from a list of 700 candidates earlier this year.Bacow, with a wealth of experience in university management, said at his inauguration that he would lead Harvard's faculty and students to meet the common challenges facing the university, to restore the value of higher education, to uphold the values that Harvard has upheld for centuries, and to fulfill the sacred responsibility and mission that our country and society have entrusted to Harvard.
