On May 12th, a two-day international workshop on High-Performance Computing for Electromagnetic and Multiphysics Modeling was held in International Campus, Zhejiang university. The workshop was organized by Prof. Jianming Jin, UIUC, Prof.Erping Li, ZJUI and Prof. Wen-yan Yin, ZJU. This workshop is sponsored by the newly founded ZJU-UIUC Institute and the Faculty of Information Technology of Zhejiang University, and cosponsored by Shanghai Jiaotong University, Hangzhou Dianzi University, the Sub-Society of Technology and Application on Complex Radiation Fields, and Xpeedic Technology Co., Ltd. It attracted more than 120 Experts and scholars from Southeast University, Xiamen University, Electronic engineering institute, China Academy of Engineering Physics etc.

Prof. Jianming Jin delivered an opening remarks at the ceremony. He emphasized that for over 50 years, progress in computational electromagnetics has played an important role in scientific research, technological development, and engineering applications in both commercial and defense industries. The emerging research on multiphysics modeling is expected to have a much broader range of application and greater potential in a variety of scientific and technological fields. Then, Prof.Erping warmly welcomed all the participants and introduced ZJU-UIUC Institute. Also he was sincere and genuine in his wish that the workshop would enable full communication and accelerate respective research process.

For this workshop, 17 distinguished speakers were invited to present their work and share their vision on various topics central to the main themes of the workshop. Such as Amir Boag, Tel-Aviv University, Israel; Tie Jun Cui, Southeast University, Nanjing, China; Eric Michielssen, University of Michigan, USA; Hao Ling, University of Texas, USA; Narayana Aluru, University of Illinois, Urbana, USA etc. The workshop is organized into four sessions. The first session is focused on multiphysics modeling that involves electromagnetics; the second and third sessions are concentrated on recent advances in computational electromagnetics and high-performance computing for large-scale electromagnetic computation; and the fourth session is devoted to discussions of technical challenges in multiscale and multiphysics modeling.

This workshop is aimed to provide a forum for top international and domestic scholars to share and exchange new ideas and latest developments in the fields of high-performance computing, computational electromagnetics, and multiphysics modeling, and to introduce the state-of-the-art research to young Chinese researchers and expose students to new challenges and opportunities of graduate study and future career.
