On December 2nd, 2017, Vice Dean of International Campus, Zhejiang University K.C. Ting (UIUC alumnus), Dean of ZJU-UIUC Institute Erping Li, and some other 10 representatives, travelled to Shanghai to participate in a UIUC Chinese alumni reunion. The theme was “150 years Illinois, hear the voice of China,” celebrating the 150th anniversary of the foundation of UIUC.
The Chancellor of UIUC, Robert J. Jones, participated in the alumni reunion and delivered a splendid speech, expressing his great wish that the alumni and UIUC create a better future and change the world. The alumni included leaders from varied disciplines, not only scholars but also successful businessmen. Before the speech, Jones warmly welcomed the delegation and wished the students making great achievements. The famous alumni, including Lisa Xu, Vice President for Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Harry Tsai, COO of Noah Holdings Limited; Victor Huang, Founder & Chairman of Kujiale; and Bo Zhang, the first Chinese to accomplish the Earth-circling Flight, participated eagerly in this event. They shared what they learned from UIUC and how these deep roots influenced their career today, also expressing their deep bond with their Alma Mater. The closely followed forum on career development and entrepreneurship was also very impressive, and it greatly inspired the ZJUI students present. The alumni meeting attracted nearly 400 alumni currently living in China; it was filled with interaction and had an animated atmosphere.
ZJUI delegation’s attendance has deepened the connection between ZJUI and the Chinese alumni, and it would further broaden the all-round alumni network, create more career and internship opportunities for our students.
