Tang Xiuju, Class of 2027 in Mechanical Engineering at ZJUI, is a two-time recipient of the National Scholarship and a passionate innovator at the intersection of mechanical engineering and computer technology. He is also the founder of Yunyu Technology Co., Ltd. and a partner of Lumi Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., translating textbook theories into patented technologies and proving through his actions how cutting-edge engineering can evolve into practical real-world solutions.
Tang Xiuju's interest in entrepreneurship began to take shape well before he entered ZJUI. Reflecting on his original motivation, he emphasized that it was never driven by short-term gains, but by genuine curiosity, a desire to broaden his intellectual horizons through hands-on practice and to connect with like-minded peers. After entering university, this early interest gradually moved beyond ideas. Through repeated attempts and reflection, it crystallized into a clearer sense of purpose and direction.
During his freshman year, Tang Xiuju took his first step into entrepreneurship by participating in the Juanhu Dreams: First Bucket of Gold Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. At the pitching event, he proposed an unconventional approach to industrial thermal energy storage. Although the project did not advance due to the lack of immediate market validation, the experience did not diminish his confidence. On the contrary, in-depth exchanges with fellow young entrepreneurs prompted him to reassess his assumptions, sharpen his thinking, and gradually clarify the path he wanted to pursue.
As a student entrepreneur, Tang Xiuju has consistently embraced a human-centered philosophy. Rather than viewing entrepreneurship as a pursuit of profit alone, he has always been committed to bringing meaningful technologies into real-world practice. Grounded in his engineering background and personal interests, he focused on concrete, real-world scenarios, seeking practical pathways to translate technology into tangible value for society.
To deepen his understanding of market dynamics and strengthen his business literacy, Tang Xiuju proactively joined Zhejiang University's blockchain student association. There, he participated in regular discussions and authored research and investment analysis reports on emerging industry trends. Through sustained research and writing, he developed a sharper ability to interpret information and identify trends, while gaining a more holistic understanding of how economic systems and social structures operate.“Once I started taking entrepreneurship seriously,” he noted, “I became much more attentive to economic conditions, policy shifts, and industry trends, and more deliberate in how I engage beyond campus.”
As his understanding of markets and finance continued to mature, Tang Xiuju gradually accumulated initial startup capital through disciplined participation in financial investments, laying the groundwork to move ideas into action. When asked about the source of his project ideas, he described it as a long-term process: observing everyday problems, testing ideas through research, and allowing concepts to evolve over time until both direction and conditions align, signaling the right moment to act.
His team's first patented product, a digital nameplate for business meetings (Patent number: ZL 2024 2 2958131.2) emerged directly from this attentiveness to everyday details. Noticing that traditional paper nameplates were time-consuming to produce, inefficient, and environmentally unfriendly, Tang Xiuju and his team applied interdisciplinary engineering knowledge from his coursework to design a paperless electronic alternative. Through testing, the team identified stability and battery life as critical factors affecting user experience, leading them to design multiple power-supply solutions while ensuring safety and reliability.
In his sophomore year, he founded Yunyu Technology Co., Ltd. and successfully entered the Zhejiang University Science Park · Juanhu Qizhen Incubator. The company focuses on software development, mechanical product design, and digital technologies. Current projects include the development of an exoskeleton-assisted mechanical device, a comprehensive financial risk-warning application, and AI-packaged tools designed to support research, each reflecting an ongoing effort to address real-world needs through technology. One year later, he then joined Lumi Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and successfully settled in Zijin Entrepreneurship Meta-Space of Zhejiang University.

Looking back on his entrepreneurial journey, Tang Xiuju credited ZJUI's interdisciplinary education and excellent research platforms as essential pillars of his growth.“These experiences allowed me to adapt quickly to different product development challenges,” he explained, “and taught me how to turn engineering principles into solutions that are both stable and reliable.”
In his freshman year, Tang Xiuju participated in an Undergraduate Student Research Training Program (SRTP) project titled Exploration of SAF Using Phase Doppler Anemometer and Diffused Backlight Imaging. Under the guidance of ZJUI Assist. Prof. Timothy Lee, he and his teammates were responsible for fluid dynamics experiments and software-based modeling of experimental apparatuses. The project spanned multiple domains, including aviation fuel, agricultural irrigation, and biological fluid optics.“It was a genuinely interdisciplinary experience,” he reflected, “one that exposed me to knowledge far beyond the classroom and showed me the real power of cross-disciplinary research.”
By his sophomore year, Tang Xiuju's awareness of industry trends led him to recognize the broad application potential of computer technologies. He joined ZJUI Assoc. Prof. Hu Huan's laboratory to pursue interdisciplinary research in the field of computing, further exploring pathways for technological commercialization.
In the project of Multiscale Simulation-Based Design and Experimental Validation of Resistive Strain Sensors, Tang Xiuju was deeply involved in structural design, component fabrication, and performance testing under Assoc. Prof. Hu Huan's guidance. He recalled the challenge of balancing size and precision in high-accuracy sensor design, “Assoc. Prof. Hu Huan helped us break a complex system down into individual geometric features, optimize each component through simulation, and then integrate the best solutions, allowing us to reduce overall size while preserving essential mechanical feedback accuracy.”This iterative and methodical research training laid a solid technical foundation for his future product development.

Beyond his roles as a student and entrepreneur, Tang Xiuju has consistently sought balance and personal growth by enriching his inner life through diverse interests. As a dedicated jazz enthusiast for many years, his passion for music began in early childhood. At the age of five, he started receiving formal training in piano and vocal performance, a commitment he has sustained with remarkable perseverance. This long-standing dedication ultimately earned him advanced, Level 10 professional certifications in both piano and vocal performance.

Amid the intense demands of entrepreneurial endeavors and rigorous academic pursuits, jazz has become a vital outlet for him to relieve stress and restore energy. “The creativity and focus it embodies align perfectly with my understanding of life and entrepreneurship,” he said.
Outside the lab and classroom,Tang Xiuju can often be found on the basketball court. Having played since childhood, he believed the intensity and teamwork of the game provide emotional balance and renewed energy amid the pressures of study and entrepreneurship.
Through experience across different roles, Tang Xiuju has gradually forged a distinctive path of growth. By embracing diverse pursuits, he broadens his perspective and strengthens his abilities, guided always by passion and moving forward through hands-on practice. May he continue to shine on the stage of life, with a future that grows ever brighter.
