Wen Jiaheng, class of 2025 in Computer Engineering of ZJUI

He has demonstrated outstanding excellence in both academic and practical pursuits, earning prestigious awards including the National Scholarship, Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship, and multiple honors from Zhejiang University. As a core member of the Room78 Algorithm Club, he taught an introductory C++ course. Beyond academics, he led his team to victory in Zhejiang University’s inaugural Freshmen Volleyball Cup, showcasing his well-rounded abilities. After securing offers from top institutions like Harvard, Yale, and others, he ultimately chose to pursue a master’s degree at Harvard University.

Since joining ZJUI, Wen Jiaheng has consistently maintained a deeply reflective approach to learning. Beyond completing coursework, he excels at optimizing solutions through hands-on practice and implementing knowledge in real-world applications. As a freshman, he developed an image style transfer tool based on convolutional neural networks, successfully transforming photographs into oil painting-style artworks. This methodology of integrating theory with practice not only strengthened his academic motivation but also brought technical concepts to life in tangible ways. This experience honed his ability to translate abstract theories into practical implementations, laying a solid foundation for advanced research.

Wen Jiaheng actively contributed to ZJUI Room78 Algorithm Club while pursuing his studies. Recognizing programming challenges faced by interdisciplinary students, he designed and taught a popular C++ introductory course for students of the ZJU international campus. His innovative approach compared C++ with Python, helping students grasp programming fundamentals through contrastive learning. This teaching experience not only benefited beginners but also deepened his own understanding of both languages.

Wen credits Assistant Professor Wang Gaoang's mentorship at ZJUI as pivotal to his research development. Starting freshman year, he joined Assist Prof. Wang's group, building rigorous research skills through participating his group meetings. And under the guidance of Assist Prof. Wang, he took part in a SRTP Project in collaboration with Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine. As a team member, he conducted a thorough technical review of the relevant field and contributed to the implementation of the core algorithm. The project was rated “Excellent” upon completion, demonstrating his strong capabilities in interdisciplinary research.

Assist Prof. Wang highly commended Wen Jiaheng, saying, "Jiaheng has demonstrated a rigorous academic approach and intense research enthusiasm. During the SRTP project, he excelled in all tasks, showing great curiosity and creativity. His strong teamwork skills enabled seamless collaboration within the group and effective communication with the supervisor, highlighting his excellent research capabilities and potential. I expect him to reach greater academic heights in the future."

Beyond his on-campus projects, Wen secured a internship at Microsoft's Asia Internet Engineering Institute., where he developed an innovative static analysis solution for Windows code during his year-long internship. His work solved previously unaddressable validation scenarios, earning recognition from Microsoft's US team.

Wen attributes his seamless adaptation to international teamwork to ZJUI's English-immersion education. He advises students to: First, when selecting an internship position, it’s advisable to prioritize research-oriented roles, as such experience can provide a significant advantage for further studies or job hunting. Second, for students, he particularly emphasized the importance of combining theory with practice. This approach not only reinforces classroom knowledge but also lays a solid foundation for future technical growth. Lastly, he highlighted that the choice of internship company directly impacts the quality of the experience, suggesting that students consult experienced seniors or alumni to identify truly suitable and high-quality opportunities.

Wen excels both academically and athletically. After winning the 2021 ZJU international campus Freshmen Cup championship, he was selected for the ZJU International Campus men's volleyball team. Through volleyball, he builds cross-cultural connections while honing his skills, demonstrating well-rounded excellence.Wen is not only an outstanding volleyball player but also a dedicated coffee connoisseur. He views coffee as a cultural bridge. Through tastings and cafe events, he gains professional insights while expanding his network in these enriching exchanges.
