On October 13th, the major science and technology cooperation project in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, led by ZJU Qiushi Chair Professor Y. Xiao, the Director of the Zhejiang University (Ninghai) Joint Research Center for Bio-based Materials and Carbon Neutral Development, titled " Development of Adhesives for Structural Control and Low-carbon Manufacture of Lightweight and High Strength Particleboard", was launched in Ninghai County. Prof. Li Hanying, Dean of International Campus, ZJU, Prof. Wang Hongwei, Vice Dean of ZJUI, and representatives of leaders from the Ninghai County acknowledged the significance of the project and warmly congratulated on the successful approval of the first major science and technology cooperation project in Guangxi on the International Campus. It is hoped to promote regional cooperation between the International Campus and ZJUI, with research institutions and enterprises in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
It is reported that since 2007, China's production, consumption, import and export of artificial boards have ranked first in the world, enjoying a global influence in this field. It is also an important industry in the national economy. In 2021, China's total production of artificial boards was 337 million cubic meters, of which one tenth was particle board. Guangxi is the largest artificial board production base in China. However, there are many low-end brands and preliminarily processed products in the artificial board industry in Guangxi, and currently there are no light-weight and high-strength particle board products. The level of deep processing and innovative technology of the products is extremely disproportionate to its position as a major province of artificial boards.
The major science and technology cooperation project of "Development of Adhesives for Structural Control and Low-carbon Manufacture of Lightweight and High Strength Particleboard" aims to combine the research strengths both inside and outside the Guangxi Region and enterprise R&D Productivity, for developing a new type of lightweight and high-strength particle board suitable for furniture customization, decoration and wooden wall panel manufacturing. The outcome is expected to upgrade production line for product development, and significantly increase the profits of relevant products by overcoming key technical difficulties. This will effectively improve the particle board industry in Guangxi and nationwide, further enhancing industrial competitiveness. The project is led by Zhejiang University, with the participation of Guangxi University, Nanjing Forestry University, and Nanjing Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products, CAF. The industrialization implementation is undertaken by Guangxi Fenglin Wood Industry Group Co., Ltd.
The Zhejiang University (Ninghai) Joint Research Center for Bio-based Materials and Carbon Neutral Development, led by Qiushi Chair Prof. Xiao Yan, has achieved excellent results in academic research, achievement implementation, and local cooperation with the support of local governments and relevant departments since its establishment in 2020. The approval of the project also reflects the research team's years of research accumulation in low-carbon and environmentally friendly bamboo and wood materials and structural systems.
