He is always strict with himself. He said: "Through student work, my business capacity, communication skills, time planning ability has been greatly improved, and what’s more importantly, in the process of serving my classmates, I have gained a full sense of happiness and sense of accomplishment.

 

Kong Zitai’s happiness and sense of achievement come from the trust of his faculties and classmates, and even more from his willingness to give. During his four years of undergraduate study, from assisting the institute in epidemic prevention and control to volunteering as a lecturer at the Jiaxing Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall, his accumulated volunteer hours amounts to 115.64 hours. He was awarded the two-star volunteer of Zhejiang University. Kong states that these volunteer activities have caused him to realize the fulfillment and happiness brought by the sense of responsibility and mission from the bottom of his heart.

In addition to devoting to volunteering work, Kong Zitai also participated in the social practice activities to Jingdong Yi Autonomous County in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province. Together with his team, he carried out social research and volunteer teaching in Jindong, where he really saw the actual situation in remote mountainous areas and learned about the efforts and sacrifices made by frontline poverty alleviation workers. Kong Zitai said, "All these experiences have given me an in-depth understanding of the society and livelihood of the remote mountainous regions in China, which has made me think about my future development direction. I am even more determined to look up to my outstanding predecessors, and to use my professional knowledge and unremitting efforts to work for the happiness of the Chinese people and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."

Education

Perseverance and steadfastness in the flow of a hundred barges

 

 

Maintaining the top ten ranking in professional grades, winning the second-class scholarship of Zhejiang University for three consecutive years, Academic Excellence Award and other honors and competition awards, Kong Zitai is among the list of "2023 Outstanding Graduates of Zhejiang Province", "UIUC Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering with Highest Honor". In professional learning, Kong Zitai is accumulating strengths to soar.

"There are no shortcuts to learning, only diligence can make up for shortcomings." When asked how he achieves excellent results, Kong Zitai said, "I try my best to build a solid foundation by attending every class, taking every assignment, course project and exam seriously. Classes and homework obviously can't teach us everything; it is more important to develop our independent learning ability. Therefore, we have to be good at utilizing rich learning resources outside the classroom to acquire knowledge and check for gaps." Taking every class practically, completing the study tasks seriously, and insisting on independent study outside the classroom to consolidate what has been learned are the foundations of his solid professional learning. Every step he takes on the ground makes his professional path flourish and hopeful.

 

In addition to his daily study, he also actively participates in lab and course projects to consolidate the theoretical knowledge he has learned in the classroom and takes the initiative to communicate and share his thoughts and insights on project advancement with his group members. "I think being down-to-earth and hands-on practice are essential for consolidating professional knowledge. I treasure the opportunity to be able to practice in lab and course projects. These projects, like many application scenarios, cannot be accomplished on one’s own, and it is important to collaborate with and learn from peers, each utilizing their strengths to accomplish tasks more efficiently." He shared.

 

 

 

 

He dabbles in a wide range of areas in his profession and keeps trying so as to find a direction that interests him. "The diversified course system provided by ZJUI has given me rich and excellent learning resources, which enables me to explore various fields and make more attempts, so that I can not only find the direction I am more interested in, but also discover the commonalities between many directions, or make multiple knowledge intersection and connection to produce the effect of 1+1>2." Kong Zitai said.

 

Now looking back at this long road, Kong Zitai is grateful to ZJUI's international cooperative education system and environment, which greatly strengthened his professional foundation, practiced his English skills, opened his vision, so that he is not completely in the dark on the road of professional learning, but also let his four years of undergraduate experience bright and colorful. "I have benefited a lot in these four years. The excellent English teaching at ZJUI and the exchange experience at UIUC have broadened my horizons and adapted me to the English academic environment; not only that, but its education model also emphasizing on practice and cooperation has greatly improved my hands-on ability and cooperation ability and cultivated my engineering thinking in a subtle way. " At present, he has been admitted to the College of Computer Science and Technology of Zhejiang University as a direct PhD student, where he is about to start another journey of dreaming and sailing.

INNOVATION

To keep the origin and innovation while traveling far away

 

He actively participated in research and training and has published an EI paper as the co-first author in the CAMMIC2022 international conference. He has also won the M Prize in the 2022 International Mathematical Contest in Modeling, and the third place in the Creative Group of the Yangtze River Delta Biomedicine Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference and the Third Business School Healthcare Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. These achievements and honors are the best reflection of his countless days and nights of perseverance and hard work and are also proving to him that his righteousness and innovation and good learning are worthwhile.

 

 

In the summer of his sophomore year, he participated in the project of "Microfluidic Type 5 Adenovirus Detection Device". Together with his team, Kong Zitai successfully developed a microfluidic detection chip from scratch through the process of principle learning, literature review, experiment, research, and development, etc., and carried out the analysis of the business model, financial planning, and roadshow of the project, which realized the development from "research" to "production".  Eventually, the results of the project won the third place in the Creative Group of the Yangtze River Delta Biomedical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference and the Third Business School Healthcare Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. "The project from beginning to end was like a fumble in several completely unfamiliar fields for us. Although the unfamiliar fields and concerns about the project's progress made us really feel the pressure and anxiety, we didn't back down, but diligently made up for the knowledge gaps, and steadily pushed forward with the project while continuously expanding the boundaries of our knowledge. In this process, my scientific exploration ability, teamwork ability, leadership, planning and communication and expression skills have been improved by leaps and bounds, and my research experience has been greatly enriched."

Suggestions for ZJUIers

 

1. Don't be afraid of failing and be brave to try. Opportunities are rich, and life choices are diverse. All kinds of research, competitions, activities are good opportunities to exercise our own youth at the right time, so do not be afraid of going down the wrong path and be brave to try new things out of the comfort zone.

 

2. Early planning and balanced development. Life is not only about grades. Don't study for the sake of studying. Try to find the direction of future development and make sufficient preparation for it as early as possible; try to find time to participate in various activities to realize the balanced development of the individual in all aspects.

 

3. Listen and ask questions. Standing on the shoulders of giants to see the world will have different experience. There are a lot of things that the valuable experience of the predecessor can help you to avoid detours, and ask instructors and seniors for advice, who may become your lifelong mentors and friends.
