Zhejiang University and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Institute (ZJUI) hosted the closing ceremony of the Sino-Italian competition "BAMBOO # PAVILION An exhibition pavilion made with Bamboo technology"  with the Science and Technology Counsellor of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, Prof. Roberto Pagani, ZJUI Dean Prof. Erping Li, ZJUI Professor/Program Director Prof. Yan Xiao, Drs. Cristoforo Demartino and Jim Li from Nanjing Tech University.

This event is the completion of a long series of activities carried out between the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria and participating Chinese universities. The design projects of the contest were also presented in Beijing during the world convention on "Bamboo and Rattan". As a result of this competition, two students of architecture from the University of Reggio Calabria (Mr. Stefano Vitale and Ms. Claudia Giorno) had the opportunity to participate in the third edition of the "Bamboo Summer School." Together with students from China and the United States, they received a broad overview of the state of the art use of bamboo in the structural field.

Italian students Stefano Vitale and Claudia Giorno illustrated their projects and the progress of the prototype construction of the exhibition pavilion at the ZJUI campus. Prof. Alberto De Capua and Marina Tornatora participated remotely in videoconference from Reggio Calabria, Italy, highlighting the need to continue along the path traced between Calabria and China.

At the event, both Prof. Erping Li and Prof. Roberto Pagani made speechs and expressed their desires to further the collaborations among ZJUI and Italian universities and scholars.
