ZJUI Students Present Innovative Projects at Senior Design

The ECE445 / ME470 Senior Design course brings ZJUI students together to tackle real-world engineering challenges through interdisciplinary teamwork. The course evaluates not only technical knowledge, but also academic writing, communication, collaboration, and the ability to turn ideas into functional systems.
This year, students presented a wide range of projects spanning intelligent design, bio-inspired robotics, healthcare, and industrial automation. Award-winning projects included an AI-powered boost converter design framework based on PE-GPT and physics-aware neural networks, a morphable robotic fish capable of switching between bionic tail and propeller propulsion, the StepWise smart insole for gait screening and rehabilitation, an automated table tennis ball sorting system, and a magnetic-wheeled pipe-climbing robot for rust removal.
Other projects demonstrated equally creative applications of emerging technologies. JengaBot can visually analyze a Jenga tower and play against a human opponent, while an interactive projection system enables touch-free control on walls and tabletops. Students also developed a child-friendly companion robot with proactive collision avoidance, an autonomous wireless charging system for AGVs, and a content-aware document stamping machine powered by computer vision and a vision-language model.
From early concepts to working prototypes, these projects reflect the creativity, technical capability, and social responsibility of ZJUI’s young engineers. Greater wonders lie ahead, waiting for every ZJUIer to discover, explore, and create.
