On December 14th, Prof. Li Erping, Dean of ZJUI, was invited to attend the sixth meeting of the Joint Conference for the Deans of Sino-Foreign Cooperatively Run Institutions and delivered a keynote speech. The meeting was held in Jinan University. In his speech, Professor Li made an in-depth elaboration on how the ZJU-UIUC Institute has been exploited the advantages to the full to cultivate high-quality and innovative talents and leaders with global competitiveness while focusing on interdisciplinary research and promoting regional development against the background of "Double-Top" construction of universities.
He also pointed out that ZJU-UIUC aims at solving the challenges faced by the global engineering in the 21st century and serve the country’s major strategic needs through the strong cooperation between Zhejiang University and UIUC in the fields of engineering and information. Drawing on the resources of the international campus of Zhejiang University, ZJU-UIUC has been highly recognized by the participants for its characteristics of joint cross-research and training. It has aroused strong repercussions at the conference.
The Joint Conference for the Deans of Sino-Foreign Cooperatively Run Institutions was founded in August 2014 under the guidance of the International Department of the Ministry of Education with the main purpose of playing a supervising role in the normative, healthy, orderly and sustainable development of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools and to provide a platform for mutual communication and assistance.
More than 120 representatives from 70 Chinese-foreign cooperative school-running units from all over the country attended the meeting, including Fang Jun, the deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and exchange of the Ministry of Education. Professor Zhao Yanzhi, who is concurrently the vice-president of the Northeastern University of Finance and Economics and the Secretary-General of the Dean's Joint Meeting, attended the meeting on behalf of the Secretariat and made a speech to report on the work.
