On April 8, an Open Day was held for the first time at the International Campus. More than 300 high school students and their parents participated. The ZJU-UIUC Institute (ZJUI) helped visitors experience life at ZJUI through discussions about education, presentations by UIUC professors, a 2017 admissions Q & A session, a poster session featuring our students, campus tours, and dining.
By 9:30 a.m., the ZJUI admission consulting desk was crowded with visitors. ZJUI Dean Prof. Li Erping, professors, and staff answered questions from visitors.
Late in the morning, ZJUI Executive Dean Prof. Philip Krein presented“The Next Generation of Creative Engineers: Changing the World Beyond Imagination.”He illustrated to visitors the driving force of engineering innovation in social development. He also elaborated on the educational philosophy and models at ZJUI, and pointed out that ZJUI combines the strengths of the East and the West in its mission to produce global engineering leaders.
ZJU Vice President and Executive Vice Dean of the International Campus Ying Yibin, Vice Dean K. C. TING, Master of Residential College Lap-Chee Tsui, ZJUI Dean Li Erping, ZJUI Executive Dean Philip Krein, ZJE Dean Ouyang Hongwei, and Director of ZJU Undergraduate Admission Office Wang Dong participated in a panel discussion about admissions and programs.
After lunch, Prof. Mats Selen of the UIUC Department of Physics presented “Thinking Like a Scientist: The Role of Design and Creativity.”Prof.Sanjay Patel of the UIUC Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering presented “Computing in the Era of the Intelligent Machine.”
