Research interests: 

Professor William Sanders earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1988. He is the head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Professor Sanders is a Fellow of the IEEE, the ACM, and the AAAS; a past chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Fault-Tolerant Computing; and past Vice-Chair of the IFIP Working Group 10.4 on Dependable Computing. He was the founding Director of the Information Trust Institute at Illinois (2004-2011), served as Director of the Coordinated Science Laboratory (www.csl.illinois.edu) at Illinois from 2010 to 2014, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Sigmetrics and ACM Sigmetrics. His research mainly focuses on computer systems modeling and analysis, architecting reliable and secure systems, and dependability/security evaluation.
